Since 2011, Project Bucephalus has run workshops designed to encourage children’s interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM). With funding from the Commonwealth Department of Industry and Innovation, FIRST Equity and Access , Propel Technologies and a partnership with the Rotary Club of Corrimal, these workshops just got bigger!
The RGIR workshops will bring girls together to explore robotics in lessons run by the experienced female mentors from the Project Bucephalus FIRST robotics teams. During RGIR, girls will attend weekly lessons, featuring lessons and games designed to develop robotics, engineering and programming skills. It will cater to all skill levels and all equipment will be supplied.
The program is open to female students in the Illawarra aged 9 – 16. There are limited spaces available. Ideally, students should seek to be nominated by their school (Contact Us to send information to a school). However, we will accept individual applications.
There are now two ways to take part:
#1: Sponsored Participation:
From time to time, RGIR is funded by a generous sponsor that allows students to attend for free. Watch this page for updates, or contact us if you know someone willing to take up the role!
#2: Paid Participation:
Unfortunately RGIR funding doesn’t always cover all interested students. Those wishing to guarantee participation in the all-girls class are welcome to pay our normal class costs. Students in this category should make an application and select the “Paying Student” option.
The 2026 RGIR program will run normally in Term 1 and 2. Terms 3 and 4 will run around participation in the FIRST LEGO League.
